- Acting for a group of major general insurers in claims by a major local bank under their bankers’ policy for an indemnity against claims filed by the bank’s customers arising from the alleged mis-selling of structured financial products linked to Lehman Brothers. Claims estimated at about $80m.
- Acting for two general insurers in claims by a securities brokerage firm and financial advisors under various professional indemnity policies in relation to claims filed by customers arising from the alleged mis-selling of structured financial products linked to Lehman Brothers. Claims estimated at more than $10m.
- Advising major foreign insurer on multiple legal compliance and regulatory issues consequent upon the worldwide financial meltdown following the collapse of Lehman Brothers.
- Acting for AIA in its claim against 10 policyholders (including 2 former agents) for, inter alia, unjust enrichment arising from their frequent fund switching activities based on 1-day late bid prices which resulted in $17 million gains in 2 years with a capital of $1 million.
- Advising a major credit insurer on credit insurance policies issued to trading houses in respect of credit issued to counterparties with total claims estimated at US$10m.
- Advising major general insurer in $12m worth of business interruption claims by their insured arising from property damage due to a flash fire at the insured’s oil tanks.
- Acting for Korean insurers, First Fire & Marine Insurance Co Ltd, in a $3m claim against a Lloyd's Asia syndicate reinsurer, Alba Pte Ltd, under an obligatory open reinsurance cover in respect of a Master CAR Cover for construction of model house projects in Korea.
- Advising a general insurer in various product liability claims against its insured due to highly publicised cases of food poisoning arising from the consumption of the insured’s cakes.
- Advising a general insurer on coverage issues under its contractors’ all risks policy arising from claims made by the insured contractor for material damage and third party claims due to a land slip at a major project at Marina South, Singapore.
- Acting for local reinsurer in resisting a claim by its cedant under a surplus reinsurance treaty arising from asbestos claims made by multiple claimants under the cedant’s underlying insurance policies.
- Advising general insurers of Singapore Formula One Grand Prix in relation to damage to a bridge in September 2008.
