OUR RESPONSIBILITIES - CSR EFFORTS

Rajah & Tann is known in the legal industry for its strong corporate social responsibility culture. Throughout our history, we’ve supported a wide range of community projects and charitable causes, both as a firm and as individuals. This passion has always been an integral part of the way we work; we’ve always been a law firm with a conscience.
In 1955, when we were founded by Thampore T Rajah and Tann Wee Tiong, we were one of the only law firms completely formed by Singaporeans. Even as a small practice with only a few lawyers, TT & Tann were deeply in touch with the needs of their community, and were known as charitable and generous men.
This tradition has been carried on by each successive generation of lawyers at Rajah & Tann, where care for our community has been deeply ingrained into our firm culture. It is this history of service, as well as an understanding of just how important social responsibility is, that forms the sturdy foundation of our CSR programmes.
In September 2009, we were delighted to be chosen by the Law Society as the inaugural recipient of their Volunteer of the Year Award (large-sized law practice) for significant non-monetary contributions to the profession. Gregory Vijayendran, one of our Commercial Litigation partners, was also named the inaugural Pro Bono Ambassador of the Year. We were also the first law firm in Singapore to set up a dedicated charity foundation – the Rajah & Tann Foundation.
Our social responsibility is not just a corporate practice; it’s in our culture. Over a period of time, our CSR efforts have evolved into a more structured and celebrated programme, and as we continue to develop, we look forward to bringing this culture to Asia and beyond.
