If you’re the kind of person we are looking for, we know you’ll probably have other options to consider. So we’d like to focus a bit more closely on the reasons why, whatever offers you may receive, Rajah & Tann is the right place to build a brilliantly successful career. We’d say there are two main factors which, in combination, give us the edge.

Finding your niche

When you apply to join us, or during your interview, please let us know which practice group you would like to join.

If you’re not certain of your preferred specialist area at this stage, don’t worry, you won’t be boxed in. In addition to training in your chosen primary practice area, you will also be given opportunities in at least one other area.

And if, after starting in one practice area, you realise that it is not the right kind of work for you, we’ll do our best within the bounds of the Firm’s needs to accomodate a switch.

Our Training Programme

There are three broad aspects to your training at Rajah & Tann:

  • With your Supervising Solicitor:
He or she, a highly experienced partner and mentor, will take charge of your training, supervising and guiding you, providing feedback on your performance, and ensuring that you are achieving all your learning objectives.

  • With your practice group:
You’ll have the opportunity to work with the other partners and lawyers within the group, who may supervise your work and critique it as part of your training.

  • With the firm in general:
With us, you will get a great foundation that will serve you well for the rest of your career. Our practice focused training programme, “Raising the Bar”, has been specially designed to equip you with the insight and practical skills you need to perform effectively in the modern legal profession.

Our Training Programme is led by our Director of Training under the oversight of a Partner-In-Charge of Training.

Litigation Training

We are one of the few firms in Singapore - if not the only one - to conduct litigation training sessions for our lawyers.  You’ll be given a hypothetical problem, and challenged to argue the case on behalf of your client, in simulated “live” conditions; the best way, we believe, to master the quick thinking skills involved in high pressure Court work.

Corporate Training

Good corporate lawyers need not just sound technical knowledge, but also a firm grasp of the intricacies of the commercial world. Our Corporate Practice Group holds frequent training sessions in which current real-life issues are shared and discussed by all present, from senior partners to trainees, to arrive at the best way of advising the client.

Care and nurture

Care and nurture

You know it’s going to be hard work and we don’t pretend otherwise, but we do our best to provide a good balance of fun, camaraderie and support.

Everyone in the firm is on first name terms, and we're proud of our most senior lawyers' commitment to taking a personal role in the development of our trainees and associates. You'll find that all our partners are happy to take the time to teach you the finer points of the law and commercial practice - not something that happens in every law firm.

Resources

eOASIS is our firm’s website for clients, filled with business and legal information that is up-to-date with the latest legislative changes.

O@SIS is Rajah & Tann LLP’s internal electronic knowledgebase, accessible wherever you are in the world. It contains not just vital research materials of articles, cases and memoranda, corporate and court precedents, and updates in the law.

Our library is unique in that we have complemented the paper library with numerous on-line tools and books accessible from your individual desktops.

Practice support

We strongly believe in giving our lawyers the right support to do the best possible job for our clients. To this end, we have several practice group support teams, each with wide experience in the work they handle. The Litigation support team, for example, is one of the most experienced in Singapore.

Overseas attachments

We constantly seek opportunities to offer overseas attachments for promising associates who have worked
with us for a reasonable period. We not only want to equip you with the skills you need to achieve your aspirations, but to spur you onto greater heights in your career.

Rewards and benefits

At Rajah & Tann, we expect a great deal from our people, at all levels. In return for their talent and dedication, we ensure that they are appropriately rewarded, both financially and in terms of the generous range of benefits they receive.
